USS Des Plaines (NCC-60016)

The USS Des Plaines (NCC-60016) was an Sauganash-class starship fulfilling missions for Starfleet in the 2360s. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles)

In 2365, investigating the disappearance of two other Starfleet vessels on the Federation-Tzenkethi border, the Des Plaines went missing, believed taken or destroyed by the Tzenkethi. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "The Tzenkethi Incident") When the other two vessels reappeared under Tzenkethi control a few months later, the Des Plaines was still no where to be seen. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Mass Extinction")

Investigating the appearance of their doubles in a duplicate USS Prospect near Directorate-controlled space, undercover Prospect officers chief medical officer Justin O'Donovan and flight controller Jennifer Drever discovered the duplicate Prospect was, in fact, the Des Plaines.

This duplicate Prospect went into combat with a Directorate battle cruiser and was heavily damaged. Despite the Prospect's commanding officer John Greene's pleas, the Directorate ship destroyed the Des Plaines, resulting in very few survivors of the duplicate crew. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Live to Tell") The aliens who took the Des Plaines and outfitted her as the Prospect were never discovered but highly implied to be the M'Tar.

The ship was named after Des Plaines, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
