For information relating to spouses in Star Trek canon, see spouse.

A spouse was one individual to whom another individual was married. The terms partner and mate were used instead of spouse in some cultures.

In some cultures, the male spouse was called a husband, groom, or bridegroom, while the female spouse was called a wife or bride.

After a divorce, the male spouse was often called an ex-husband, while the female spouse was called an ex-wife. The word ex could be used interchangeably.

Where one spouse died, the male surviving spouse was called a widower, while the female surviving spouse was called a widow.

Some cultures allowed for more than two individuals to be married, and the terms for spouses in these relationships varied from culture to culture.
