Krakania was a planet in the Krakanian system near the edge of the Typhon Expanse and operated as a starbase until Starbase Expanse 4's destruction in 2372.
Sometime in the distant past, the members of the Krakanian species painted murals on the extensive cave system walls on their homeworld. For unknown reasons, the Krakanian civilization went extinct prior to Human arrival.
In more recent times, Ambrose Wong's grandfather and others created a Federation colony on Krakania, and that colony acted as a "spring board" for Starbase Expanse 4's creation.
Ambrose Wong's grandfather also discovered the extensive cave system running under the surface and named the purple light emanating from the cave system "Peking Purple".
In 2372, the Myhr'an destroyed Starbase Expanse 4, leaving a 90 kilometer wide crater on the surface and intense storms as an aftereffect. The blast killed nearly everyone on the surface. The USS Cantabrian evacuated the survivors, including Benjamin Caldwell, Yh'ahni and Ambrose Wong. (Star Trek: The Cantabrian Expeditions: "Catalyst, Part One")
