Ecology was a biological science studying how lifeforms were distributed throughout the galaxy and how those lifeforms and other lifeforms interacted with one another as well as with their environment.
A global civil war devastated most of the surface of Ubessi prior to 2362, causing the sudden ecological collapse of those areas. The survivors moved to a small city in an unaffected area.
During the Battle of Ubessi in 2362, Cardassian ships forced a Starfleet starship into Ubessi's lower atmosphere, causing a warp core breach that destroyed the city and surrounding area as well as killing most of the surviving Ubessians. The disaster tipped Ubessi's ecology into total ecological collapse, forcing the small group of Ubessian survivors to abandon the planet.
