A dedication plaque was a metal plate commemorating a starship's launch. Most Starfleet starships had a dedication plaque on their bridge. The plaque listed information like the starship's official name, its registry, the officers responsible for its design and construction, and the shipyard where it was constructed.
Dedication plaques also sometimes held a quote by a well-known person on them. Examples include:
Ship | Quote | Person |
---|---|---|
USS Cantabrian USS Cantabrian-A |
"Not knowing when the dawn will come, I open every door." | Emily Dickinson |
USS Hillary USS Hillary-II |
"It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves." | Edmund Hillary |
USS Prospect USS Prospect-A |
"For hope is but the dream for those that wake." | Matthew Prior |
