The chameleon projector was a system used on small craft by the Federation Starfleet. The system would project an image across the hull of a vessel making it blend in with its surroundings. While the device was effective against visual sensors, it did not mask the vessel from other sensors.
In 2367, the type 7 shuttlecraft Dionysus, assigned to the USS Prospect, used the system during an undercover away team mission to Goffan III to determine if the Jenchum Suzerainty was building a subspace weapon. The system was used also in an attempt to extract second officer Kari Eriksson from the planet. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Starry, Starry Night")
- The system was originally called the chameleon shield, but, Star Trek: The Farthest Star creator Jay L.R. was kind enough to allow us to use the name chameleon projector, as used in his series.
